Dear pro-choice, professing Christian
This past Sunday, I was able to present the biblical worldview of abortion at my church. I attempted to show from Scripture that God created every person equally in his own image, and as divine image-bearers, all people, including the unborn, have inestimable value and dignity before God and deserve honor, respect, and protection. If you listen to my Sunday Tapes podcast, you’ll hear that message in the next episode.
You will not be surprised, then, to know I’m troubled by the volume of professing Christians on social media lamenting the overturn of Roe v. Wade. I’m troubled, but I’m also curious.
Dear pro-choice, professing Christian, may I assume you agree that the Bible is God’s word, inerrant, infallible, and the final authority for determining what is true and right? May I also assume you agree that everyone has been created by God and for God? Lastly, may I assume you agree that God requires those who bear his image to live justly in the world?
If so, what led you to adopt a pro-choice position? I’m sincerely asking. What principles or Bible passages have informed your worldview as it relates to abortion? How would you defend your stance?
If you’re willing, I would like you to privately send your explanation to [email protected]. Again, I’m sincerely curious. Rather than make assumptions, I would like to hear from you.
To be clear, I do not intend to debate or even reply unless you request I do. I just want to understand you better.
